Year 13 Personal Development Day - CPR training
One of the most impactful parts of the day was the CPR in Schools training, delivered by an outstanding team from Plymouth NHS Trust. This was not a pre‑recorded session or standard training pack — it was delivered in person by real NHS doctors and consultants, several of whom work in emergency medicine and acute care. Despite their incredibly demanding schedules, these medical professionals volunteered their own time and days off to ensure our students could gain essential lifesaving skills.
During the workshop, students received hands‑on, practical training from experts who regularly respond to real emergencies. They learned:
- How to recognise when someone is in cardiac arrest
- How to perform high‑quality chest compressions
- The importance of early CPR in increasing survival rates
- How to act confidently and calmly under pressure
- What happens in a real resuscitation scenario, explained directly by hospital clinicians
The session was highly engaging, and students benefited enormously from hearing real experiences and advice from frontline medical staff. The doctors and consultants demonstrated techniques, answered questions, and offered reassurance to students who were learning CPR for the first time.
We are extremely grateful for their generosity, expertise and commitment. Their contribution not only taught our students a vital skill, but also helped build confidence, compassion, and a sense of responsibility toward others. These are skills and values that extend far beyond school.
