Year 13 Personal Development day - Friday 30 January

A Full Day of Skills, Learning, and Lifesaving Experience

Our Year 13 cohort recently took part in an inspiring and action‑packed Personal Development Day, designed to equip students with the academic, financial, and practical skills they need as they prepare for life beyond school. The day brought together expert visitors, hands‑on challenges, and meaningful learning experiences that will support our students as they move into adulthood, higher education, and future careers.

Building Financial Confidence

The day began with a session detailing finances, an area many young people specifically asked for. Students explored:

  • How budgeting works.
  • The real costs of living independently
  • How to manage income, taxes, bills, and student finance
  • Strategies for budgeting effectively at university

This practical session ensured that every student left with a clearer understanding of the financial responsibilities they will soon face, and the tools to make informed, sensible decisions.

MADE Training: Preparing for A‑Levels and University Study

We were pleased to welcome MADE Training, who delivered two impactful workshops designed to support students as they approach their final A‑Level examinations and looking ahead to university.

  1. Study Skills for A‑Level Success

This workshop focused on the increased depth and independence required at A‑Level. Students explored:

  • How to become active, engaged readers
  • Techniques to revise more effectively for A‑Level assessments
  • The Cornell Method, a structured approach to note‑taking that supports understanding and recall
  • How to organise information for exam preparation and future university study

These strategies will support students as they prepare for their final exams and the academic expectations of higher education.

  1. Small Changes, Big Results

In the second session, students looked at how marginal gains can improve academic performance. They explored:

  • How small, 1% daily improvements can make a significant difference
  • Identifying personal habits that impact revision and learning
  • How to build routines that support A‑Level success and ease the transition to university

This workshop encouraged students to reflect on their study habits and make positive adjustments ahead of the exam season.
